Smriti Mandhana will leave Babar Azam behind in the race for runs, know how, complete mathematics

Indian women’s cricket team’s star batsman Smriti Mandhana has now come close to a big achievement in T20 international cricket. Even though she cannot be directly compared with Pakistan’s male cricketer Babar Azam, Smriti is now in a position to surpass Babar in the combined T20I run record of both men’s and women’s players. Currently, Babar Azam is at second place in the joint list of highest run scorers in T20 international cricket. He has scored 4596 runs in 136 innings of 145 matches. Smriti Mandhana has scored 4401 runs in 161 innings of 167 T20 international matches. This means that there is a difference of only 195 runs left between the two players. If Smriti scores 196 more runs in the upcoming matches, she will surpass Babar and reach second place in the joint list.

Position in combined T20I run list

1. Suzie Bates – 4720 runs
2. Babar Azam – 4596 runs
3. Smriti Mandhana – 4401 runs

Why is the record in danger?

Babar Azam played his last T20 International match for Pakistan in February 2026 and at present new runs are not being added to his account. On the other hand, Smriti Mandhana is playing in the Women’s T20 World Cup and she has a chance to score runs continuously. In the opening match of the tournament against Pakistan, Smriti has shown signs of returning to form by playing a brilliant inning of 68 runs in 44 balls. For this reason, it is believed that this difference of 195 runs between Babar and Smriti may end soon.

Is Suzy Bates’ record also in danger?

Even after leaving Babar behind, Smriti’s next big target will be New Zealand’s legendary batsman Suzie Bates, who has 4720 runs in her name. However, to reach that mark Smriti will still have to score 319 more runs. At present, the biggest focus is on whether Smriti Mandhana is able to surpass Babar Azam and become the joint second highest run scorer in T20 International cricket in the current tournament or not.
