US President Donald Trump has indicated that after Venezuela and Iran, Cuba can also be included in America’s strategic priorities. In an interview, Trump said that the possibility of a US operation in Cuba in the future cannot be ruled out and it could be similar to the action taken in Venezuela. After his statement, a new debate has started regarding US-Cuba relations and Washington’s policy in Latin America.

What did Trump say on military action in Cuba?
In an interview with Axios, Trump was asked whether a possible US operation in Cuba could be similar to Venezuela. To this he replied, “It is possible.” Trump said that Cuba is very close to America, so the situation there is different. Although he also said that his priority would be a peaceful transition of power, but military options have also been considered if needed.

America is increasing pressure on Cuba
According to the report, the Trump administration has been increasing economic and political pressure on Cuba in recent months. The US has imposed new sanctions on Havana and warned that there would be serious consequences if Cuba tried to acquire weapons that could pose a threat to US territory or the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay.

Military plan also claimed to be ready
Trump said in the interview that if Cuba’s communist government becomes unstable or the situation there worsens, then various military and diplomatic options have been planned. The administration has also reportedly made preparations for situations like civil unrest and political crisis.

Trump compared Cuba’s possible action to the recent Iran campaign, saying that the military campaign in Iran was much larger and used more weapons and resources. According to him, the case of Cuba is different and its geographical position is more strategically favorable for America.

Different opinions of experts
Analysts believe Trump’s Cuba strategy resembles the Venezuela model in many ways, including economic pressure, diplomatic isolation and military overtures. However, experts also say that due to Cuba’s political system, geographical location and international allies, the circumstances there are quite different from Venezuela.
