A high-level meeting between Iran and America was held in Switzerland on Sunday (21 June 2026), which was quite tense. According to Tasnim’s report, during the meeting, the Iranian delegation refused to participate in the photo session with American officials. The Iran-US meeting took place at the Bergenstock resort, where Iran, the US, Pakistan and Qatar had joined for talks under the recently signed Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). According to the report, a handshake and joint photo session between the two sides was planned before the start of the talks, but Iran’s chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi refused to take part.
Despite the ongoing tension during the meeting, Iranian and American officials remained present in the same room for some time. However, before the talks, US President Donald Trump warned Iran on the social media platform Truth Social, saying that America would take strict action if Iran did not ban its proxy groups in Lebanon. After this comment of Trump, tension increased further and the Iranian delegation expressed protest.

Joint statement of Pakistan and Qatar
A joint statement has been issued by Pakistan and Qatar. He said that many important developments were agreed upon in the meeting, including creating a new system for further talks. On the basis of MoU, all the parties have agreed to form a high-level committee. This committee will keep political monitoring on the entire mediation process and decide the direction of negotiations. All chief negotiators will give regular reports to this high-level committee. Also, this committee will monitor the work related to nuclear issue, sanctions and implementation of MoU. For this, separate working groups will also be formed, which will include groups related to monitoring and dispute resolution.
