New Cancer Drug Launched In India: A new hope has arisen in India regarding cancer treatment. Drug manufacturing company Eli Lilly and Company India has launched a new targeted therapy Tanstrive for cancer patients. This medicine has been prepared for special types of cancer patients in whom RET gene alteration is found. The company claims that this medicine works to prevent abnormal signals that increase cancer. However, it is important to understand that it has not been claimed that a 14-day dose will completely eliminate every patient’s cancer. 14 days is the treatment cycle of just one box of this medicine.
For which patients is this medicine?
This medicine has been introduced for those patients who have locally advanced or metastatic solid tumors and whose cancer is related to RET gene alteration. That means this medicine is not for every type of cancer. Before starting the treatment, doctors determine through testing whether RET gene mutation is present in the patient or not.

How does the new medicine work?
According to the company, Tanstrive has been designed in such a way that it directly targets RET gene alterations. It blocks abnormal signaling pathways that cause cancer cells to grow rapidly. This is an oral medicine, which the patient has to take twice a day. The medicine is available in tablets of 40 mg, 80 mg, 120 mg and 160 mg, so that the doctor can decide the dose as per the need of the patient.
How much does medicine cost for 14 days?
The company has fixed the price of this medicine at Rs 2.15 lakh per box. One box contains the medicine required for treatment for 14 days. After this, for how long the patient will have to take the medicine, it will depend on the condition of his disease and the doctor’s advice.
What did the company say?
Winslow Tucker, President and General Manager of Eli Lilly & Company India, said that Precision Oncology is rapidly changing the way cancer is treated. According to him, TanStrive is an important step towards increasing access to targeted therapy in India for patients whose cancer is associated with RET gene alteration. Regarding the new medicine, it is important to understand that it cannot be considered a treatment for every cancer patient. This is only for those patients in whom RET gene alteration is found. Therefore, before starting any kind of treatment, it is very important to consult an oncologist and get necessary tests done.
