People in Venezuela are removing debris by themselves
The people of Venezuela have themselves engaged in relief work. Despite help arriving from around the world, local people have complained about the slow pace of relief work. In such a situation, many people themselves have joined the rescue work. The survivors have formed a group and are removing the debris and searching for their family members. According to AFP news agency, 40-year-old Marjosley Salazar is searching for his 5-month-old son Gael. He said that his 16 year old daughter was killed in the earthquake. His son and his cousin are still missing. He said, ‘We need help here. Machines are needed to remove heavy debris. We did not see any government official here.
Experts’ statements regarding earthquake
According to experts, the first 48 to 72 hours after any earthquake are the most important. During this time, there is the highest possibility of evacuating living people. After this, hope diminishes considerably, unless the stranded people are getting food and water. Rescue team leader Nadiomar Polanco said that many buildings have completely collapsed. He said that now there is very little hope of finding survivors and most of the efforts are now focused on recovering the bodies. A new problem arose in the relief work on Friday night, when the authorities banned the entry of common people in the disaster affected areas. The government said that movement of people without permission is increasing chaos, traffic and noise, which is affecting the relief work. Now government permission will be required to enter there.
What information did the Venezuelan government give on the matter
People are standing in long lines outside shops, medical stores and food trucks to collect essential goods. There are also reports of looting of toilet paper and food items in some areas. Despite the ban, many people are trying to rescue people by cutting concrete with the help of hammers and machines. The Venezuelan government said that 861 international volunteers from Mexico, America, El Salvador, Switzerland, Colombia and other countries are engaged in relief work. More help is expected to arrive in the coming days. The United Nations said that 25 search and rescue teams are being sent from around the world, which includes about 1,000 emergency responders.
Venezuela received offer of help
Venezuelan President Delsey Rodriguez is in contact with US President Donald Trump and Marco Rubio to speed up relief efforts. United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said that teams from at least 17 countries are being sent for relief work. Teams from Spain, El Salvador, Switzerland, Colombia and Mexico are already present at the spot. This disaster has created a new challenge for Venezuela. The country is already facing economic problems and now this tragedy is making the situation more difficult. India, China, Brazil and even Iran have offered help. Pope Leo XIV has sent an aid of 1,00,000 euros as initial relief.
