Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sane will be on a visit to India from July 1 to July 3. Japanese Prime Minister Sane will reach Delhi on the evening of 1st July. During this time, Takaichi Sane will be formally welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan. There will be a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Will also participate in the India-Japan Business Forum program.
Japanese PM’s first visit to India after assuming power
This is the first visit of Prime Minister Takaichi Sane to India after assuming power in Japan. However, there have been several talks and meetings between Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Sane in the last few months. Recently, both the leaders met on the sidelines of the G7 summit held in Evian, France.
There was also a meeting between the two on the occasion of the G20 summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa in November 2025.
Why is this visit of Japan’s PM important?
Japan’s Prime Minister’s visit to India is in discussion. In fact, this visit will further strengthen the special strategic and global partnership between India and Japan. Bilateral relations between India and Japan will be reviewed and the two leaders will have in-depth discussions on issues of mutual interest related to trade, investment, economic security, defense and security, science and technology and culture. India and Japan have centuries-old close cultural and spiritual ties.

76 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries will be completed in 2027
In the year 2027, 75 years of diplomatic relations between India and Japan will be completed, which will be seen as a strong pillar of friendship between India and Japan. High level dialogue is continuing between the two countries. Prime Minister Modi visited Japan in August 2025. In January 2026, the Foreign Minister of Japan visited India.
India’s Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar participated in the AZEC Plus meeting chaired by Prime Minister Takaichi Sane in April 2026. In this meeting, supply constraints in the energy markets due to the latest situation in West Asia were discussed. Not only this, the Petroleum Minister of India also visited Japan in November 2025.
Japan’s involvement with India’s North East has also increased continuously in the last several years. In the meeting of India-Japan Foreign Ministers in January 2026, there was discussion on increasing connectivity between North East India and surrounding areas. There was also discussion on further strengthening cooperation between the two countries through the India-Japan Act East Forum. Due to this, Japanese leaders visited the North East of India a lot.
When did the leaders of Japan visit the North East?
May, 2025- Fukushiro Nukaga, the then Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan, visited Assam. During this he met the Chief Minister and Governor of Assam. Also visited IIT Guwahati and Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Facility.
December, 2025- A delegation led by Oyama Satoshi, Lieutenant Governor of Kagawa Prefecture of Japan, visited Delhi and Manipur.
February, 2026- Japan’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Iwao Horie visited Meghalaya and Assam. Hori met the CMs of both the states. Addressed the India-Japan Intellectual Conference. Hori also visited IIT Guwahati.
Which leaders of the North Eastern states of India visited Japan?
- January, 2025- Chief Minister of Assam visited Japan. During this, an MoU was signed between the Government of Assam and ASEAN ONE on training 20 thousand youth in 5 years.
- July, 2025- Chief Minister of Nagaland visited Japan.
- October, 2025- Arunachal Pradesh CM visited Japan. Arunachal CM also visited Sasakawa Peace Foundation.
India and Japan have also established several special forums to promote development and cooperation in the North East, including:
