In countries like France, Britain, Germany and Italy the temperature has crossed 40 degrees Celsius. Due to this, there is a huge increase in the demand for air conditioners and fans. Because traditionally about 80% of European homes did not have air conditioners, this is why there is a shortage of them in many shops.
The total cost of purchasing and installing a split air conditioner in Europe ranges between €1000 to €3000. In Indian currency this amount ranges from ₹ 90 thousand to ₹ 2.7 lakh. Unlike India, the installation cost here is often so high that it can exceed the price of the air conditioner itself.
In countries like Germany, France and UK, only government certified F-Gas engineers can install air conditioners. Home owners cannot install the air conditioner themselves nor can they call a common mechanic. Because of this the labor charge becomes very expensive.
Many people are choosing portable air conditioners because they do not require drilling or installation work in the wall. These units usually cost between €300 and €700. This makes them a more economical option than split air conditioner systems.
In cities like Paris and Rome, installation of outdoor air conditioner units often requires approval from local authorities as well as housing associations. Along with this, people living in rented houses cannot install fixed air conditioners without the permission of the landlord.
Even after installation, running an air conditioner is very expensive because the price of electricity in Europe is the highest in the world.
