NEET fraud case: 30 accused in jail, taken on 72-hour remand, SIT will interrogate

In the NEET re-exam fraud case, the SIT of the Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) on Thursday (July 09, 2026) took 72 hours remand of 30 accused lodged in Lakhisarai Mandal Jail. After getting remand permission from the court in all the three cases registered in Kiul and Kavaiya police stations of the city, the investigating agency has now started preparations for interrogation.

The inquiry may reveal many important links of the entire network of fraud. Last Wednesday (July 08, 2026), the Chief Judicial Magistrate had given permission for remand in two cases registered in Kiul and Kavaiya police stations. Earlier, EOU had got approval for remand in another case registered at Kavaiya police station. On Thursday (July 09, 2026), the SIT took all the 30 accused together to Patna.

The accused will first be interrogated separately in Patna. After this everyone’s statements will be combined. If necessary, interrogation will also be done by sitting face to face. According to sources, senior officers of EOU and research officers of all three cases will be present during this period.

Many revelations can be made during interrogation

It is believed that the team may get a lot of important information during the interrogation. The entire network of fraud, financial transactions, contacts with other states or districts can be revealed. Important information can also be found about the mastermind of this racket.

Nine fake candidates were caught

Let us tell you that after the paper leak incident, a major fraud was revealed in Lakhisarai during the NEET UG examination held on June 21. Nine fake candidates were arrested while appearing for the exam in place of other candidates. Taking action, the police arrested 30 accused. These included nine fake candidates, one original candidate, two associates and 18 biometric personnel. EOU took over the investigation. A 12-member SIT is investigating under the leadership of DIG.
