Ethanol Plant: A case of misappropriation of government ration rice sent for making ethanol has come to light in Madhya Pradesh, where the consignment of rice sent from Food Corporation of India (FCI) for making ethanol reached a private rice mill instead of reaching the designated place. As soon as information about this matter was received, the police immediately started investigation. According to the suspicion, initial investigation revealed that an attempt was made to cause financial loss to the government by misusing the rice given through the government scheme.
What is the whole matter?
According to preliminary investigation, government rice released from FCI was sent to an ethanol plant in Chhindwara, but instead of going to Chhindwara, the truck loaded with rice was found parked at a private rice mill in Balaghat district. It is being told that 490 sacks filled with about 242.55 quintals of rice have been recovered from that truck. After which the police confiscated the truck and the rice in it.

What are the allegations made in the FIR?
According to the FIR, an authorized representative of the ethanol company has been accused of tampering with the government rice. It is being told that a plan was being made to use cheap broken rice in ethanol production instead of government rice. The government has suffered a lot due to this manipulation. However, the police have registered a case against the truck driver and the rice mill owner in this matter.
How to get FCI rice in ethanol scheme?
The central government provides FCI rice to eligible distilleries to make ethanol. Only those distilleries which have an ethanol supply agreement with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) can buy this rice from FCI. The government provides this rice at subsidized prices to make ethanol.
What action will be taken now?
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate this matter. At present the police is also interrogating all the people related to this case. Efforts are also being made to find out whether the government rice was deliberately sent to the wrong place or not. Police say that action will be taken against the real culprit only after the investigation is completed.
