Four updates have emerged from the ICC annual meeting that lasted for 4 days in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. This meeting lasted from July 8 to July 11, in which many issues were discussed. It was considered to reduce the number of overs in ODI matches from 50 to 40, but no consensus could be reached on this. On the other hand, Mauritius has got Associate Membership from ICC.

Currently, 9 teams participate in the World Test Championship, but increasing the number of teams was also discussed in the annual meeting. However, a positive conclusion could not be reached after increasing the number of teams to 12. Know here what decisions were taken in this meeting of the International Cricket Council.

ODI format will remain only 50 overs

There was news of major changes being made in ODI cricket. Before the 1987 World Cup, each innings in ODI matches used to be of 60 overs. Now, after 39 years, it was considered to reduce the number of overs in ODI matches from 50 to 40. The update is that for now ODI matches will be of 50 overs only.

The number of WTC teams will not increase

Currently 9 teams participate in the World Test Championship. There was news of Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Ireland being included in it. For now, the number of WTC teams will remain 9 only. These 9 teams are India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, West Indies, Sri Lanka and England.

No relief to USA and Canada boards

The USA Cricket Board was suspended in September 2025. The ICC acknowledged that it would be important to lift the suspension on the USA board before the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, but for now the suspension will remain in place. On the other hand, the Canada Cricket Board was suspended in June this year. The Canada Board will also remain suspended at least for now.

Mauritius becomes 111th member of ICC

Mauritius has got the membership of ICC, it is the 111th country in the world to get the membership of ICC, which is a symbol of the increasing popularity of cricket. Mauritius will remain an associate member for now.
