Brendon McCullum’s tenure as Test coach started in 2022. After his arrival, England adopted a new style of aggressive and fearless cricket, which was named Baseball. This strategy gave excellent results in the beginning. England achieved many memorable victories under baseball. The batsmen of the English team adopted a risk-taking style and tried to play Test cricket at a fast pace.
In many test matches, England scored around 400 runs in a single day. Some times England scored more than 400 runs in a day. It was McCullum who brought batsmen like Ben Duckett and Harry Brook into the Test team. However, in recent times there has been a decline in the performance of the English team.
England lost 7 of its last 9 test matches. This includes a 4-1 defeat in the Ashes series played in Australia and a 2-1 defeat against New Zealand at home. This defeat against New Zealand was England’s first home series defeat of three or more Test matches in 14 years.
England played a total of 49 test matches when Brendon McCullum was the head coach. During this period, the English team won 27 test matches, while faced defeat in 20 matches. Along with this, two test matches remained drawn.
Let us tell you that Brendon McCullum will remain the head coach of England’s T20 and ODI team. He has only resigned from the post of head coach of the Test team. The ECB has confirmed that the search for a new Test head coach will begin immediately. Whereas McCullum’s contract as head coach in white ball format is till 2027 ODI World Cup.
