Many types of videos keep appearing on social media about students studying abroad. But currently the video of an Indian student is making a lot of headlines on Instagram. This student studying in UK has given a very important and eye-opening advice to international students. The student says that it is necessary to do a part-time job to live abroad and meet the expenses. But one should not put one’s real purpose and career at stake in this pursuit. Students must make time for networking, conferences and events related to their field.

Why was Dhruvi disappointed with UK students?

This viral video has been shared on Instagram by a student named Dhruvi Dave, who is studying Aerospace Engineering in the UK. While sharing one of her experiences, Dhruvi said that she had recently gone to a project showcase event at Space Park Leicester. After going there, she was surprised to see that not a single student from her course was present there. Whereas that event was a great way to meet big names and professionals of the industry and find job opportunities.

‘If you want a job, go out and meet people’

Dhruvi said in the video, “I don’t understand what has happened to students here in the UK. You have come here to study, right? You need a part-time job, that’s fine too. I myself do a part-time job, but I manage my shifts in such a way that it does not come in between my career opportunities.” He further explained that when you are looking for a job, networking is the most important thing. If you don’t go out and meet people in your field, you won’t get a job easily.

Gave up three jobs each for the conference

Dhruvi claimed that many students give up going to such big events just because of their part-time job shifts. He reminded the students why they had taken huge education loans and why they had come abroad. Giving her own example, Dhruvi said, “I myself quit three jobs. Why? Because the timing of my job was clashing with my career-related events. I had to go to a conference, and I left my part-time job just to attend that conference.”

80% Indians in class, still not even 1% attendance

Dhruvi also expressed disappointment over the fact that about 70 to 80 percent of the students in her class are Indians. But not even 1% of the students from his class attended that big project showcase event. Appealing to the students, he said, “Please go out, do networking and visit these places. This is what will help you further. This part-time job of yours will never convert into full-time, only your ability and networking will help.”
