Moldy Juice News: Have you ever heard that someone got 70 thousand rupees because of drinking bad juice? Yes, something like this has happened recently. In Himachal Pradesh, a person had taken Dabur company’s Mausambi juice to drink on the occasion of fast. But there was fungus in that juice, about which the person came to know later and his fast was broken. Hurt by this, he filed a complaint in the consumer court.

What is the whole matter?
Actually, this case is of the year 2024 when Himanshu Mishra, Aarti Sood and Narayan Thakur, residents of Kangra, bought Real’s seasonal juice in the month of Sawan. After drinking this juice, they came to know that there was fungus in it. Due to which his fast was broken and he also fell ill. The expiry date of the juice in the pack was November 2024, while the juice was manufactured in May and was purchased in July. This case hurt his religious sentiments and also caused mental stress. After which all three together filed a complaint against the company in the Consumer Court of Himachal Pradesh.

However, when a complaint was made to Dabur company, they refused to accept it and even said that the packet had been changed by the complainants.

What did the court say?
After the consumer’s complaint, the Commission said on this matter that, during the hearing, the complainant had presented a sealed tetra pack of juice before the Commission. Under the supervision of the Commission, the sample of that juice was sent to the lab for testing. During investigation, moldy lumps were found inside the juice. The lab said in its report that this juice is not safe to drink.

The Commission also said that a green dot was given on the pack, but the finding of mold in the juice is contrary to this claim. The Commission said that this has also hurt the religious and emotional sentiments of a vegetarian family. For this, it is not necessary to prove that drinking juice has caused any physical illness.

Commission imposed fine on the company
The Commission accepted that the shopkeeper had sold the juice in the same sealed pack and the fungus had grown during packing in the factory. Therefore, this is a manufacturing and packaging defect, for which the company is responsible. Accepting the complaint, the Commission ordered the company to pay compensation of Rs 60,000 and litigation expenses of Rs 10,000. Also said that this amount should be paid within 45 days only.
