Ethanol News: For the last several days, there has been an uproar regarding ethanol petrol from social media to petrol pumps. Some people are saying that E-2 petrol is good, while many people have many complaints about this petrol. Meanwhile, the government has also made it clear that at present they have decided to mix only 20 percent ethanol in petrol. At present there is no discussion on adding more than this.
What did the central government minister say?
In fact, recently Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Suresh Gopi has talked about this in the Rajya Sabha. He has told that if there is a consideration of increasing the quantity of ethanol in future, then first scientific studies will be done and talks will be held with automobile companies, oil companies and research centers. Only after this any further decision will be taken.

The target is fixed at 20 percent
Not only this, but Minister Suresh Gopi also said that India has achieved the target of 20 percent ethanol blending five years ahead of schedule. In the year 2013-14, the share of ethanol in petrol was only 1.53 percent, which has now increased to 20 percent in 2025-26.
Mileage may be less in old vehicles
Apart from this, regarding the use of E-20 petrol in vehicles, the minister said that the government has not received any complaint like engine damage, problem in fuel pump, rust or water problem. Crores of two-wheelers and petrol cars have been running on E20 petrol for many years and no evidence of any technical fault has been found on a large scale. However, mileage may be reduced by 3-5% in older E10 vehicles.

Will there be an option at petrol pump?
Not only this, the government also said that only extra grains are used for ethanol production, which does not affect food security. Also, at present there is no plan to provide petrol with low ethanol or no ethanol separately at petrol pumps, because this will increase the cost and reduce the benefits of this scheme to the environment and farmers.
