The troubles of Pakistan cricket team have increased further after the defeat in the first test against West Indies. The International Cricket Council, while taking disciplinary action against fast bowlers Mohammad Abbas and Khurram Shehzad, has found them guilty of violating the ICC Code of Conduct. Both the players have been punished for their aggressive celebrations after getting out on the field.
Aggressive celebration proved costly
During the first Test played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, both the bowlers celebrated by going very close to the batsmen after taking wickets. The ICC considered it against the spirit of the game and declared it a Level-1 violation under Article 2.5. According to this rule, no player can use such words, gestures or behavior that would provoke or give an aggressive reaction to the out batsman.
Khurram Shahzad fined, Abbas reprimanded
After taking the wicket of Shai Hope in the 17th over of the second innings of West Indies, Khurram Shehzad was seen celebrating by coming very close to him. For this incident, ICC fined him 15 percent of his match fee and also added one demerit point to his account. Mohammad Abbas was given one demerit point along with an official reprimand for his enthusiastic celebration after taking the wicket of Jomel Warrican.

Disciplinary process ended without hearing
According to the ICC, both players admitted their mistake and agreed to the punishment proposed by match referee Jeff Crowe. For this reason there was no need for a formal hearing in the matter. It was also clarified that this was the first disciplinary violation of both the players in the last 24 months.
Pakistan lost in the first test
Before this off-field action, Pakistan had to face a 90-run defeat in the first Test against West Indies. Under the captaincy of Babar Azam, the team has faced defeat in the eighth consecutive Test on foreign soil. Pakistan had recorded its last Test win abroad in July 2023 and since then the team has been waiting for victory. Now the second test between the two countries will be played from August 2, where Pakistan will look to level the series and end the long wait for victory on foreign soil.
