We and everyone of you must have heard about words like global warming and climate change. Scientists are speculating that many cities around the world must have been underwater in the coming few years. Something similar is going to happen in America for which scientists have introduced a shocking study. This study is satellite based that reveals that 28 cities of the United States (US) have started underwater. This process is getting very slow but continuously. Let’s know in detail about the study.

Researchers at Virginia Tech have released a study that says that the 28 most densely populated cities in the US are constantly getting into the water. Of forbes Report According to, these cities also include names like New York City, Chicago, Dalas, and Denver. These cities are moving from 2mm to 10mm per year to sink from 0.08 inches to 0.4 inches. Virginia Tech used high resolution radar measurement to mapping the process in urban areas.

Researchers found in 28 cities that at least 20 percent of the land area is sinking in each city tested. And in 25 of these 28 cities, more than 65 percent of the land is sinking downwards. Due to this, there is a possibility of a serious threat to urban infrastructure systems in the coming time. There may be floods here. The coastal areas can absorb water and infrastructure can be completely destroyed.

According to the report published in Nature Cities, the cities of Texas have the highest sinking rate, with Houston the most affected. 40 percent of the city of Houston is sinking faster than 5mm per year, and 12 percent of it is faster than 10mm per year. Under the direction of Leonard Ohenhen, researchers connected about 80 percent of urban collapses with excessive groundwater exploitation, which is the result of increasing urban needs. Although natural geological activity is also important, human activities have now become the main cause of land collapse here.

Experts have warned that small changes can also weaken the structural integrity of roads, bridges, rail systems and other infrastructure. “This danger increases very slowly, it increases the ground from below,” Associate Professor Manuchar Shirzai said in Virginia Tech. Then if disasters come, very few people recognize it in the early stages. “

According to the report, although it can never be completely stopped, it requires more monitoring and legal action in relation to it. Emphasis should be laid on better satellite monitoring, changes in granting management and construction of strong infrastructure.
