USA’s legendary technology company Apple (Apple) has decided to make a big investment in India in view of global trade tension and its dependence on China. Apple’s manufacturing partner Foxconn is investing $ 1.5 billion (about Rs 12,834 crore) in India. This investment will be made through Singapore -based Foxconnous unit, which will further enhance the company’s production capacity in South India.
Most iPhones will be made in India
This decision has come at a time when commercial tension between the US and China is continuously increasing. This strategy of Apple is to diversify its supply mechanism and reduce dependence on China. The company wants most of the iPhones sold in America to be built in India in future.
Donald Trump’s talk ignored
US President Donald Trump first urged Apple CEO Tim Cook to start manufacturing units in the US instead of producing in India. Trump believed that this would increase employment in America. However, Apple has promoted its investment and production in India bypassing Trump’s advice.
IPhone construction is increasing in India
In the last one year, Apple has created about $ 22 billion iPhones in India, which is about 60 percent more than the previous year. A large part of the iPhone made in India comes from Foxconn in South India factories. Apart from this, companies like Tata Group and Pegatron are also manufacturing for Apple in India.
Improvement in employment and supply chains
Increasing production in India will not only provide relief in cost to Apple, but will also create new employment opportunities in the country. This investment can take India’s electronics manufacturing sector to new heights and take another step forward towards becoming a global manufacturing hub.
