Rs 2000 notes updates: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been close to two years of closure of the 2000 note, but still 2000 notes are being seen. Notes worth Rs 6,181 crore are still in circulation. This information was received in the official data released on Monday (June 2). According to RBI, 2000 rupee notes are still valid currency.
Let us know that the 2000 notes are still a legal tender meaning that they have not been declared invalid. However, they are no longer being released as new notes.
98.26 percent bank notes of 2000 withdrawn
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced the withdrawal of a 2000 rupee bank note on 19 May 2023. The RBI said in a statement, the total value of the note, which was in circulation of Rs 2000, was Rs 3.56 lakh crore on the closure of the business on May 19, 2023, which came down to Rs 6,181 crore on 31 May 2025. The central bank said, “Thus 98.26 percent bank notes of Rs 2000, which have been in circulation till 19 May 2023, have returned.”
Said and how to deposit 2000 notes?
The facility of depositing and changing these bank notes was available in all bank branches by 7 October 2023. Now this facility is available only in 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank of India. RBI’s issue office has been accepting 2000 rupee bank notes from 9 October 2023 to submit from people and institutions to their bank accounts. Apart from this, RBI also informed that people can send a 2000 rupee note from any post office of the country to any RBI office to submit a 2000 rupee note in their bank accounts.
