US President Donald Trump has announced a 50 % tariff (fee) on goods imported from Brazil on Wednesday (July 9, 2025). This new tax will be applicable from August 1. This decision has been taken after the verbal war between Trump and Brazilian President Lula Dr. Silva. Lula called Trump an unwanted emperor, which made the matter hot.
Trump has also written a letter to President Lula. In this, he said that he knows and respects former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. Trump described the ongoing hearing against Bolsonaro as a political conspiracy and said that it should not happen. Trump wrote in his letter, “I know former President Bolsonaro, have worked with him and respect him very much, as most of the leaders of the world. The way Brazil has treated Bolsonaro, it is an international embarrassment. It should not be tried. It is a ‘Witch Hunt’ that should be stopped immediately.”
Trump gave a big warning
Trump said, “The attacks on the freedom of America’s expression and electoral processes from Brazil, especially through secret and illegal censorship orders imposed on American social media companies by the Supreme Court of Brazil, is unacceptable.” He further said, “Therefore, a 50% tariff will be imposed on any Brazilian product being sent to the US from 1 August, which will be different from other sectoral tariffs. If a country tries to bring goods from Brazil to America, it will be the same tariff.”
