On Friday (July 18) in Haryana’s Hisar district, 16 -year -old Dalit Kishore Ganesh finally was cremated. This was done when the state government accepted all the demands of his family. On July 7, the family was constantly sitting on a dharna and demanding justice for the death of Ganesh, found dead under suspicious circumstances.
Finally, after the government met the demands, he was cremated on the afternoon of 18 July. During this, Haryana Government Minister Krishna Kumar Bedi and local MLA Randhir Panihar were also present on the spot.
What was the demand of the family?
The family demanded that there should be a fair investigation into Ganesh’s death, an FIR of murder should be lodged, strict action should be taken against the culprits and a member of the family should be given a government job.
Based on the complaint of Ganesh’s father Vikram Kumar, a case has been registered against unknown persons under sections of murder and SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act.
Earlier, when the police went to stop the music playing in a loud voice at a birthday party in the colony on July 7, Ganesh died in suspicious circumstances.
What was the role of minister and administration?
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Krishna Kumar Bedi himself reached the dharna site on July 18 and assured the family that all their demands have been accepted. He told reporters that on the basis of the complaint made by the family, an FIR has been lodged and the matter will be investigated in a fair manner. The minister said that the innocent needs to be afraid, but the guilty will not be spared.
How long was this picket going on?
Since the death of Ganesh, the family and some members of the Dalit community were sitting on a dharna for the last 11 days. The family also refused to take the body till the administration was compromised. But on July 18, when the government accepted their demands, the body was taken and the funeral was completed. This case had become an issue of sensitivity not only in Hisar but in the whole of Haryana.
Please tell that during the police action on 7 July, Ganesh died in suspicious circumstances. According to PTI, a case has been registered in the FIR under the section of murder and the SC/ST Act and the funeral was done only after all the demands from the government.
