Delhi Police has got a new leadership. As soon as the current Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora retired on 31 July 2025, Shashi Bhushan Kumar Singh, senior IPS officer of AGMUT cadre of 1988 batch, has been given additional charge of Delhi Police Commissioner. SBK Singh, originally belonging to Bihar, has been identified as a strict but learned officer.
B.Sc from Delhi University, later MBA also did
SBK Singh’s educational journey has been very impressive. He did BSc in Physics from the prestigious St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. He was also the President of Planning Forum during college days. After BSC studies, he passed the UPSC exam and joined the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1988. Later he also obtained a degree in Human Resource Management (MBA-HR).
Long and diverse experience in police service
In his 35 -year -long career, SBK Singh has worked in many big and challenging positions. He joined the Delhi Police in 1990 and first played the responsibility of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Central Delhi. Then there were ACP in Karol Bagh and SP in Khonsa district of Arunachal Pradesh. Apart from this, SP of Telecom and Transport, South of Delhi and Additional DCP in Central Zone, North East Delhi and DCP of Central Delhi were also served.
Important responsibilities played from central government to Mizoram
SBK Singh also worked in posts like Deputy Secretary and Director in the Cabinet Secretariat of the Central Government. He has also held important positions like DIG in Puducherry, Inspector General in Arunachal Pradesh, and DGP in Mizoram. From February 2022 to June 2022, he was a Special Commissioner in Delhi Police. Since June 2022, he was working as the Director General of Home Guards.
Delhi gets experienced leadership
Now he has been given additional charge of Delhi Police Commissioner. SBK Singh’s administrative and strategic experience, especially in law and order and internal security matters, will play an important role in further strengthening the police system of the capital. Talking about salary, the Delhi Police Commissioner gets a salary of Rs 225000.
