Who does not know Bollywood actress Preity Zinta. There was a time when a coin named his name used to run in Bollywood. It was said that if Preeti is in a film at that time, then she is almost certain to be a hit. However, now his name is coming up in the case of 122 crore scam of New India Co-operative Bank. According to the Economic Offection Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police, Zinta was given a concession of 1.55 crore in a loan settlement of 18 crores given by the bank. This loan had become a non-performing asset (NPA) for the bank.
Understand the whole matter
On 7 January 2011, Preity Zinta was given a loan of 18 crores. In return, he mortgaged a residential flat in Mumbai and property in Shimla, which was worth 27.41 crores.
He was to pay 11.40 crores by November 2012, but due to delay in payment, this loan was declared NPA on 31 March 2013. At that time the outstanding amount was 11.47 crore. Later, in April 2014, the bank proposed to pay the remaining amount by giving a discount of 1.55 crores. Zinta paid the remaining money and cleared the account. But, now this concession has become part of the investigation of suspected financial activities in the bank.
EOW is investigating
Eow is investigating several loan accounts approved between 2010 and 2014 in this bank. So far, eight people have been arrested in this case, including former general manager of the bank Hitesh Mehta. Mehta is accused of grabbing 122 crore and his polygraph test has also been done. Now they plan to do brain mapping test so that the trail of money and other involved people can be traced. Apart from this, former bank chairman Hiren Bhanu and his wife Gauri Bhanu have also been declared wanted in this case.
Depositors’ difficulties increased
After this scam, the functioning of New India Co-operative Bank has been affected and the deposits are worrying about the safety of their money. To protect the interests of the bank’s depositors, an organization has demanded immediate intervention from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) so that the bank operations can be resumed.
No response came from Preity Zinta
So far Preity Zinta has not given any response to the matter. However, according to sources, he had paid all the money to the bank and the loan settlement was done with the approval of the bank. However, the matter may deepen now as the EOW investigation is on.
