On Monday night, a cloudburst in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand has caused huge havoc. Flood waters with heavy rains have damaged houses, roads and bridges. It can be clearly seen in the video of the incident that along with the strong currents of water, large quantities of soil, stones and plants are also flowing.
What is cloud bursting
To know what happens, the ABP Live team talked to Mahesh Akhwat to know what happens and why clouds burst. Those who gave information about the causes of cloudburst and the circumstances said that according to the definition of cloudburst, if there is 100 millimeters or more rainfall in an hour at some place, then it is considered to be a cloud burst. This incident is also possible in the plains, but its effect in the mountains is more frightening.
Cloud bursting in hilly areas is made dangerous
Cloudburst incidents are more dangerous in the hilly areas, because there is no deposition of water. Due to slopes, rain water flows rapidly and gets into rivers, which makes their flow very fast. This is the reason that rivers also take soil, rocks and other debris with them, which causes mass havoc.
Monsoon turf reasons for heavy rains
Expert said that at present, the main reason for heavy rains in the mountainous states of North India, especially Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, is to bow down to the Terai regions of “Axis of Monsoon Turf”. Whenever it comes towards the Turf Futhells i.e. Terai areas, then there is excessive rain. In this situation, moisture winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal come towards the mountainous regions, which increases the chances of becoming clouds and bursting. He said that, we had issued a red alert for the last two days. Similar situations were also created during the Kedarnath disaster in 2013. “

Rescue operation may be interrupted
The meteorologist has warned that good rains are likely to continue in many areas for the next 12 hours, which may cause relief and rescue operations. However, he hoped that there may be a slight decrease in the intensity of rain from tomorrow, which will provide some relief in the rescue operation. But this relief is not going to last long. From August 12, there is a possibility of heavy rains once again, which can lead to incidents like landslide. In such a situation, in this window of the next three-four days, we have to complete the rescue operation fast.
Let me tell you that rescue work in Uttarkashi is going on fast and the administration is completely in alert mode. The local people have been appealed that they should be cautious and unnecessarily go towards the rivers or sensitive areas.
