US President Donald Trump said on Thursday (August 14, 2025) that the heavy tariff imposed on India would have impressed Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to talk to me. In a conversation with Fox News Radio, Donald Trump said that everything has its own effect. Trump claimed that the purchase of oil from Russia has stopped due to the fine imposed on India.

Donald Trump announced the first 25 percent tariff on India’s goods this month. After this, Trump also announced an additional fine of 25 percent on Indian products. After these announcements, the tariff imposed on India by America reached 50 percent. The US President cited the oil being bought by India from Russia for this tariff.

‘Russia is going to lose its biggest customer …’- Trump

US President Trump further said in the conversation that India will probably play a role in getting ready for Putin’s conversation. He said that surely when you lose your second largest customer and are going to lose your first biggest customer, then I think it may have a role.

On the question of giving economic incentive to Russia to stop the fight in Ukraine, he said that he would not want to do his move publicly. He emphasized this and said that his wish is in getting immediate peace agreement. He said that if there is any result from this meeting, then he will immediately call the President of Ukraine Volodimir Jailonsky and will call him wherever we meet.

What do Trump want to do by putting pressure on India?

India has emerged as a major partner in China’s strategic rivalry with the US in recent years. However, its big trade with the US and close relations with Russia have made India the main target of Donald Trump’s tariff. On the pretext of this, Trump is trying to pressurize India to get a peace agreement with Ukraine.

In the last few years, India has made an important place in global leadership. Whether it is European country or African, whether Muslim nation or a small island country… India’s relations have become better than all countries. Trump’s tariff bomb from India has been described as unfair, unknown and indiscriminate.
