A helicopter running a monsoon -affected rescue operation in northern Pakistan crashed on Friday (August 15, 2025), in which 5 crew members were killed. AFP has given this information citing the statement of the Chief Minister of Pakhtunkhwa province.

Chief Minister of Pakhtunkhwa province Ali Amin Gandapur said that this accident has occurred due to bad weather in Pandiali area of Mohammand district. In Bajaur, the MI-17 helicopter carrying relief material for rain-affected areas crashed in Pandiali area of Mohammand district due to bad weather, in which five crew members including two pilots were killed.

Rescue operation team reached the crashed place

According to the PTI report, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s MI-17 helicopter was flying from Peshawar to Bajaur, when it lost contact with the moctive tribal district. However, no official information has been received from the officials whether the accident happened due to bad weather or due to any other reason. The rescue operation team has been sent to the crashed area.

According to AFP, landslides and sudden floods have occurred in northern Pakistan due to heavy monsoon rains and at least 164 people have died in the area in the last 24 hours. According to the National Disaster Management Authority, most of the deaths were recorded in the hill Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where the figure is 150.

Pakistan Meteorological Department released alert

At the same time, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has also issued an alert regarding heavy rains in the north-west and requested the people to get out of the house and avoid going to danger areas.
