IOC to start aviation fuel: People usually throw bad or used eating oil. But now this oil will be used to fly airplanes. The country’s largest refining and fuel marketing company Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has got its permission. The refinery at Panipat, Haryana has received an international certification to create a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). IOC has become the first company in India to get such a certification.

This recognition is given by ISCC CORSIA (ICAO). IOC chairman Arvinder Singh Sahni said that the company hopes that the fuel of the aircraft will start to form from the Panipat refinery by December this year.

How much fuel will be made?

Indian Oil estimates that the oil used by the end of the year will develop a capacity to make aircraft fuel per year. For this, bad oil will be collected from major food chains like big hotels, restaurants and Haldiram. This is the same oil that is not used again after frying and cooking.

The IOC chairman says that the oil used in the country is available in sufficient quantity. The real challenge is to collect it from small cities and towns. Special system is being developed for this.

What is a sustainable fuel?

Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is an alternative biofuel, which emits much less carbon than traditional jet fuel. It is produced from food used by food, agricultural residues and other bio-vest instead of petroleum sources. Adopting this will help in reducing the carbon footprint of the aviation industry.
