Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced an increase in fares from Monday (25 August). DMRC has increased this on the basis of the distance of the journey. DMRC said that the fare had not increased for the last 8 years, due to which there was a lot of pressure on his economic condition. It was a compulsion to increase the fare.
What is the reason for the increase in fares?
1. Loss in Kovid – The number of passengers had reduced greatly in Corona time, which reduced the income.
2. Paying Craz – Metro has to return the loan taken from Japan’s agency Jica, whose installments are going on.
3. Repair of trains – Metro vehicles are now getting 15–20 years old. It is important to fix them in between.
4. Network Care – Track, stations, machines and rest of the structure cost huge expenditure every year.
5. Salary of employees – Thousands of people work in the metro, their salary also has to be given.
New fare on normal days-
- The fare for a distance of zero to two kilometers has increased from Rs 10 to Rs 11.
- For 2 to 5 kilometers, now Rs 21 will be replaced instead of 20
- For 5 to 12 kilometers instead of 30, now 32 rupees will have to be paid
- For 12 to 21 kilometers, Rs 43 will have to be paid instead of 40
- 54 will have to be paid instead of 50 for 21 to 32 kilometers
- For traveling more than 32 kilometers, now 64 rupees will have to be paid instead of 60
The passenger Fares of the Delhi Metro services have been revised with effect from today, that is, 25th August 2025 (Monday) Onwards. DMRC said that the fares have also been increased by up to five rupees on the Airport Express line. This increase is minimum and its purpose is to balance operating costs by providing affordable public transport.
