Former Rajya Sabha MP and former Chairman of the Minorities Commission, Tarlochan Singh has given a big statement about the 2002 Gujarat riots. He said that this riot was the result of anger arising out of the Sabarmati Express fire and PM Modi handled it well. Tarlochan Singh appreciated the participation of PM Narendra Modi for this.

He said that if Narendra Modi did not handle it, Gujarat would have been burnt. The families of the people burnt in the train wanted to take their bodies to their village, but Modi ji performed his last rites there. Think if people had taken the bodies of their families to the village, then how much anger would have arisen among other people and Gujarat would have been burnt.

‘Government has no role in riots’

On Wednesday (August 27, 2025) during a conversation with ANI, Tarlochan Singh said that during the Gujarat riots, Narendra Modi showed courage and stopped it from happening. The 2002 Gujarat riot was the result of public anger and the government had no role in it. He said that the riot of Gujarat was not sponsored like the 1984 riots in Delhi. In 2002, I was the chairman of the Minorities Commission.
