The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh is going to run a special road safety campaign ‘No Helmet No Fuel’ in all the districts of UP from 1 to 30 September. Under this campaign, two -wheelers without helmets will not be given fuel at petrol pumps. This step is taken under sections 129 and 194D of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 which makes the helmet mandatory.
What is the purpose of no hemmet no fuel
During this time, the District Road Safety Committee, Police, Transport and Food and Logistics Departments together will monitor petrol pumps. Awareness campaign will also be conducted through the Information Department, in which banners, posters and social media will be used. According to the data, wearing helmets reduces the risk of head injury in road accidents by 70% and this is the main objective of this campaign.
What is the rule in Pakistan
In Pakistan, different fine is imposed in different cities for riding a helmet bike. In Pakistan’s Lahore or Punjab province, a fine of 2 thousand Pakistani rupees is imposed on without a helmet bike, which is about 600 rupees in the Indian rupee. At the same time, 500 Pakistani rupees i.e. about 150 Indian rupees are challaned for not wearing helmets in Karachi. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a bike is fined 100 Pakistani rupees i.e. 30 Indian rupees for riding a bike without a helmet. However, there is no official mention of policy like ‘No Helmet, No Fuel’ on a large scale. In Pakistan, awareness campaigns about road safety are conducted, but their impact is limited.
Not applying helmet causes more deaths
According to the data, wearing helmets reduces the risk of head injury in road accidents by 70% and reduces mortality by 40%. Every year in Uttar Pradesh, thousands of people lose their lives in road accidents, most of which are two -wheelers. Head injuries are the most deadly in road accidents and helmets can reduce this danger to a great extent. Through this campaign, the government’s goal is to make helmets a part of their routine and give priority to their safety on the road.
