Due to heavy rains and floods, all educational institutions in Punjab will remain closed till 7 September. Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains announced this on Wednesday (3 September).

He said, “According to the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, in view of the flood situation, all government/aided/recognized and private schools, colleges, universities and polytechnics across Punjab will remain closed till 7 September 2025. Everyone is requested to strictly follow the guidelines of the local administration.

In view of the flood situation in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had earlier announced the closure of the school from 27 to 30 August. After this, this date was extended till 3 September.

Many rivers in spate

Punjab and Haryana also received rain today (3 September). This increased more difficulties in front of the people already troubled by the flood. Due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab is in the grip of severe floods due to the boom in Sutlej, Vyas and Ravi rivers and seasonal drains.

According to the bulletin issued by the state officials on the situation from 1 August to 2 September, floods in Punjab have killed 30 people and more than 3.5 lakh people have been affected. Relief and rescue operations are going on by NDRF, Army, BSF, Punjab Police and District Officers in the affected areas.

Due to continuous rains, the water level of some rivers including Yamuna has increased, due to which Haryana officials have to open the doors of Hathinikund barrage in Yamunanagar district. 3,29,313 cusecs of water was released from Hathinikund barrage at 9 am on Monday.

What did CM Bhagwant Mann say?

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is constantly reviewing the situation. He visited village Gatti Rajo in Firozpur on Tuesday (2 September). The CM said that proper compensation will be given to people for all kinds of damage caused by floods and new and effective methods will be sought to deal with such situation in future.

Bhagwant Mann said, “Also, there has been a demand from the central government to increase the compensation for the loss due to natural disasters. Keep courage and courage. Keep positive thinking and morale intact. In the hour of this crisis, our government and administration are standing with people with full readiness. Every effort is being made to take people out safely. The situation will be normal soon. ”
