India Earthquake Risk Like Myanmar: Myanmar had two terrible earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.7 and 6.4 in the afternoon on Friday (March 28). Due to these earthquakes, Myanmar has caused heavy havoc. So far more than two thousand people have died, while thousands of people have been injured. At the same time, more than 300 people are still missing. This earthquake of Myanmar also engulfed the neighboring country Thailand. Scientist of IIT Kanpur has now warned of earthquake like Myanmar in India.
Javed Malik, Professor of the Earth Sciences Department of IIT Kanpur, said, “The root cause of the terrible earthquake in Myanmar and Bangkok is Sagiing Fault. Sagiing fault is very dangerous and this fault can be easily seen through map on the Internet.
Ganga-Bengal fault is in Siliguri
Professor Javed Malik said, ‘There is a Ganga-Bengal Fault in Siliguri, India, India, while Myanmar has a Sagiing fault. There are many other faultlines between these two faults. In such a situation, the possibility cannot be ruled out that due to the active one of the fault, another fault can also be active, which can cause terrible earthquake in India.
He said, ‘Sagiing is a very old fault. North-East’s zone is a part of the subduction zone from Arakan to Andaman and Sumatra. Even the sagging fault is visible from the top of the ground. He further explained that Japan and European experts have worked on saging. Many research has also shown that there is a frequency of earthquakes in 150 to 200 years, which means that there is a big earthquake once in so many years.
Need to pay special attention to India’s Zone-5
Pro. Malik said, ‘We should not wait for any major earthquake in India. There are many active fault lines in the Himalayas. Their frontal parts have been done, but there are also fault lines above. We should not just see earthquakes around the plate range. North-Eastern parts of India and Kashmir come in Zone-5. In such a situation, excessive research is needed in these areas. Apart from this, work should be done to take maximum precautions in this area and reduce the effects of earthquake.
