Harbhajan Singh, who is engaged in relief work to help flood affected Punjab, said- ‘When needed …’

Former India spinner and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh has come forward to help his home state Punjab. He is collecting funds for relief work. A source close to him told PTI that Harbhajan from his MP Nidhi Fund has approved eight steamer boats for relief work and gave three more boats from his resources.

The source said on the condition of secrecy, “Harbhajan has donated a total of 11 steamer boats. Eight from his MP Nidhi and three from his pocket. The price of each boat is around 4.5 to 5.5 lakh rupees. He has also bought three ambulances to deliver seriously ill people to nearby hospitals.

Punjab has been struggling with the severe flood situation due to heavy monsoon rains for the last few weeks and cracks in the river embankments, which has displaced people on a large scale and has also damaged crops. Many districts are still submerged, and the state government, volunteer groups are engaged in rescue and relief work.

Cricketer -turned -politician Harbhajan Singh has also approached his friends and well -wishers for help. According to a source, on the request of Harbhajan, a sports organization has donated Rs 30 lakh, while two of his close friends have contributed Rs 12 lakh and six lakh rupees respectively.

The source said, “About 50 lakh rupees have already been collected and donated.” He also said that essential items like food and medicine are also being provided regularly to the affected families.

Harbhajan Singh, a Rajya Sabha member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is constantly monitoring the situation and he has assured that more help will be provided if needed.
