Protests are going on in Nepal about social media ban. It has taken a dangerous turn. The protesters tried to enter the Parliament House, after which the army and the crowd came face to face. A security enclosure was made around the Sansad Bhavan and to bring the situation under control, the congestion and bullets were fired in the air.
The army deployed six helicopters to stop the protesters moving towards ministers’ residences in Bhanspati area of Kathmandu. Some of these helicopters were evacuated from ministers and their families. Meanwhile, the crowd set fire to many residential quarters.
The aggression of the protesters increased so much that they also set fire to Rashtrapati Bhavan. At the same time, there were reports on social media that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli can also be airlifted and taken out.
In view of the situation in Nepal, the security forces took tough steps, but the violence has already made a profound impact. At least 21 people died and many were injured in the clash on Monday.
There is dissatisfaction within the government between the continuous deteriorating situation and violence. Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Development Minister Ramnath Adhikari resigned on 9 September. He accused the government that he chose the path of repression and firing to suppress a peaceful protest.
Home Minister Ramesh writer also resigned on the evening of 8 September. Taking the moral responsibility of the deaths in the violence, he took this step. It is clear that the protest is affecting not only on the streets but also in the corridors of power.
According to the Nepali media report, Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel has demanded Prime Minister Oli to leave the post. He said that until the political leadership takes responsibility, the army would not be able to handle the situation. Meanwhile, Oli called an all -party meeting at 6 pm and called upon all the parties to discuss the solution.
Prime Minister Oli said that our youth should have made their point in peace, but unfortunately the situation became violent. Now we have to find the way together.
The Nepal government has implemented curfew in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur. Despite this, Gen-Z protesters are constantly gathering on the streets. His main resentment is against corruption and social media ban.
According to the report of Kathmandu Post and Himalayan Times, the protest is no longer limited to only one policy, but it has become a symbol of conflict between the younger generation and the government.
