A man cheated Rs 65,000 from a female fan as Hollywood actor Keenu Reeves. The victim’s daughter has lodged a complaint with the Versova police station. He told that his mother had taken his mother in a bluff.
The elderly woman lives alone in her house in Versova, and betrayed her by convincing her that she was talking to Keenu Reeves. On Monday, the Versova police registered an FIR against an unknown person in the case for allegedly cheating the woman in the name of Kinu Reaves.
What is the matter
A cheater approached Kamat through social media and described himself as Hollywood actor Kinu Reaves. He started talking to the elderly woman Kamat on Instagram, Telegram and WhatsApp and told that he was going to come to Mumbai to meet her. After winning the confidence of the woman, she said that she would need Indian currency when she came to India and she asked Kamat to transfer money to her IDBI bank account. Kamat is convinced that she was talking to the real Kinu Reavs, so Kamat transferred Rs 65,000 to the IDBI account given from her Canara Bank account.
Elderly woman’s daughter suspected
On June 30, at 1:57 pm, Kamat got an email which was read by his daughter, which made him suspicious. The money was transferred to the account of a person named Nahar in a bank in Dehradun. She immediately contacted her mother and came to know that she had become a victim of fraud. Then he advised his mother not to transfer money to anyone. The fraud contacted Kamat through Instagram handle ‘Reeves_1390’ and Telegram ID ‘Keanu_reeves4576’.
Police investigation continues
On September 8, Sneha, daughter of the elderly woman, went to Versova police station and lodged a complaint. The police have registered a case under Section 318 (4) (fraud) and related sections of the Information Technology Act and now the investigation is on.
