The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday (September 14, 2025) over the heavy tariff imposed by the US on India due to oil imports from Russia, that we praise India that they continued to have relations with Russia even after Donald Trump has increased duty on Indian imports. The Russian government said that any attempt to harm relations with India would be a failure.
In its statement to RTV, the Russian Ministry said that it thanks India that they continued to cooperate with Russia even after the pressure and threats. Officials said, “To be honest, it is difficult to imagine anything else.”
‘Attempt to obstruct India-Russia relations failed’
The Russian Ministry further said that relations between India and Russia are moving forward with confidence and all the efforts of those who obstruct this process will fail. Russia’s statement came after bitterness in trade relations between India and America. Trump, by imposing 50 percent tariff on Indian import goods, warned that if India does not stop the oil imports from Russia, America will continue this tax.
Donald Trump has repeatedly accused India of ‘promoting Russia’s deadly attacks’ by purchasing Russian oil, while his government has avoided strict ban on Russia. India has condemned the tariff as unfair and condemned it. India has pointed to the purchases being made from Russia by America and Europe.
‘Sovereignty of every country is most important’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke of strengthening the relations with China and Russia despite America’s huge tax tariffs during the SCO summit at Tianjin. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that India’s approach to relations with Russia reflects ‘long -term friendship and traditions of long -term friendship’ and New Delhi’s ‘Strategic Autonomy in International Affairs’.
The statement of the Russian Ministry said that the friendship of India and Russia rests on the thinking that the freedom (sovereignty) of every country is most important and the interests of their country come first. This relationship is a trusted, clear understanding and a strong strategic partnership in real ways.
