Cricket fans still remember Brian Lara, one of the world’s great batsmen, for his big shots and long centuries. Lara, who retired from international cricket 17 years ago, has once again registered her presence with the bat. At the North Zone Cricket Council T20 Festival held at Trinidad & Tobago, he batted brilliantly while playing for his childhood team Howard Sports Club and won the team.
Match was shortened by rain
The Howard Sports Club and Iboni Sports teams were face to face at the Diego Martin Regional Sports Complex. Earlier this match was to be 20-20 overs but due to rain it was reduced to 15-15 overs. Batting first, Iboni Sports hit 100 runs for 6 wickets and gave Howard’s team a target of 101 runs to win.
When Lara came on the field
The Howard Sports Club chased the target with a fast start, but the team lost two wickets as soon as the scoreboard reached 48. At the same time, 56 -year -old Brian Lara came to bat at number 4. As soon as he came on the field, he introduced his experience and class. Lara played the bowlers openly and rotated the strike and made big shots at the required time.
Match won by an unbeaten innings
Lara played an unbeaten innings of 26 runs and played an important partnership for the third wicket with fellow batsman Andre Yard. His innings made the match stand completely in favor of Howard. Finally, Howard Sports Club won the match by 8 wickets and the winning run also came out of Lara’s bat. In this way, he proved that whatever the age, the class is always intact.
Was seen in action in India too
Brian Lara landed on behalf of the West Indies Masters team in the International Masters League played in India earlier this year. In that tournament, his team reached the final and was runner -up.
Lara’s career
Brian Lara said goodbye to international cricket in 2007, but by then he had become the biggest name of West Indies cricket. He scored 11,953 runs while playing 131 matches in his Test career and even today he is the highest run -scorer in Test cricket for the West Indies. His unbeaten innings of 400 runs and 375 innings are recorded in Test cricket history.
