In the Asia Cup 2025, the ‘Handshek controversy’ has been very much discussed recently. The controversy started with the India-Pakistan match, when the players of Team India did not join hands with the Pakistan team. In this case, the name of the match referee Andy Paiyoft also came into the limelight, about which the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) claimed that Paiyoft had apologized. However, the ICC accused the Pakistan Cricket Board of violating the rules. Meanwhile, if I assume, India starts boycotting the Asia Cup for some reason, then know how much damage BCCI may have to bear for this.
India will do boycott, then how much will be the loss
First of all, know that the Asian Cup is organized, not the ICC but the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). If a team withdrew the name before the tournament starts, then it can be replaced by another team and accordingly it is also possible to change the schedule. But there was a dispute in Pakistan’s case because it threatened to leave the middle tournament in the middle.
If India or any other team tries to leave the tournament in the middle, then it may have to pay heavy penalty. Such decisions also affect broadcasters, sponsorship and ticket sales revenue. Recently, a report came out that Pakistan could have to pay a penalty of $ 16 million, or about 140 crores, to leave the Asia Cup in the middle.
If India had boycotted the Asia Cup like Pakistan, then it is not necessary for BCCI that it would have to pay a penalty of Rs 140 crore. This amount can be more or less, but ACC has definitely imposed heavy penalty in such a situation. Apart from this, the team’s partnership in the next ACC tournaments can also be affected.
