The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is going to get a new president soon. According to a PTI report, former Delhi Ranji star batsman Mithun Manhas has been selected for the post of BCCI President. In an important meeting held in Delhi, his name has been agreed. The post of BCCI President was vacant for three weeks, when former all -rounder Roger Binny resigned from his post.
Who is Mithun Manhas?
Mithun Manhas may not have been able to play international cricket by wearing a jersey of Team India, but in domestic cricket, his name is taken with great respect. He made a first-class debut from Delhi in the 1997/98 season and soon became the backbone of the team’s middle order.
The most golden moment of his career was the 2007/08 Ranji Trophy season when he played a key role in winning Delhi after 16 years. In the nearly two decades of long career, he scored 9714 runs in 157 first-class matches, including 27 centuries and 49 half-centuries. Later he also played for Jammu and Kashmir and landed for the last time in 2016.
IPL and coaching career
There is also a presence of mind in IPL. He has played cricket by being part of franchises like Delhi Daredevils, Pune Warriors India and Chennai Super Kings. After retirement, he chose the path of coaching and became the head coach of the Delhi Ranji team in 2018. After this he joined Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Recently he is working as an assistant batting coach of Gujarat Titans.
Politics and cricket mail
The selection of the post of BCCI President has often been associated with political equations. According to Cricbuzz report, it is being told that the names of Manhas were agreed in the meetings of senior BCCI officials and ruling party BJP leaders in Delhi. Even this issue was discussed at the residence of Home Minister Amit Shah.
Why is this election important?
If Mithun Manhas officially becomes BCCI President, this will be the first time when former Ranji star and experienced domestic players of Delhi will reach this post. BCCI is considered to be the most powerful cricket board in the world, in such a situation, the responsibilities of mind will also be big.
Current responsibilities
Mithun Manhas is currently the administrator of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) and is playing an active role in domestic cricket.
