Assembly elections are to be held in Bihar by the end of this year. Political mercury has increased due to this. Meanwhile, it has come to light that the Election Commission can soon announce the dates of Bihar assembly elections. According to information received from sources, along with election dates in Bihar, special intensive revision (SIR) can also be announced in other states.
There may be announcement between Dussehra and Diwali
The Commission has instructed the Chief Election Officers of all the states to complete the preparations related to SIR by 30 September. It is likely that this announcement can be made in the first or second week of October, but in the midst of all this, the Election Commission is also looking at the legal aspects of the pending case in the Supreme Court. SIR’s final voter list in Bihar will be published on 30 September.
The Election Commission meeting with the election officials was also organized by the Election Commission in the first week of September with an important meeting with the Chief Electoral Officers of all the states. In this meeting, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and other top officials gave detailed guidelines to the states regarding the preparations for SIR. According to sources, during this meeting, the authorities were asked to complete all the SIR work in the next 10-15 days, including mating the old voter list to the current list, identifying illegal migrants, and preparing the final list for intensive revision.
Previous SIR was between 2002 and 2004
The previous SIR in most states took place between 2002 and 2004. The Election Commission has made it clear that the main objective of SIR is to keep the voter list clean and fair, including the identity of foreign illegal migrants and removing them. In this way, along with the dates of Bihar elections, the Election Commission can also declare the date of SIR in many states of the country soon and the election officials have been given strict instructions to be prepared in this regard.
