An era in the history of the country’s air power is going to end on 26 September, when the Indian Air Force Mig-21 fighter aircraft will be held with the final operation ceremony. On this day, the 23rd squadron’s MIG-21, called ‘Panthers’, will be given a sentimental farewell at Chandigarh Air Force Station.

Squadron leader Priya Sharma will also participate in this historic ceremony. She will join the flight in which six aircraft will flypass and they will get a water canon salute on the landing. Priya Sharma also took off in the entire rehearsal on Wednesday, which led to her significant contribution in this farewell.

Who is Priya Sharma?

Priya Sharma graduated from the Air Force Academy, Dundigal in 2018. She is the seventh female fighter pilot of the Indian Air Force. At the time of his commission, the then Army Chief Bipin Rawat handed him a certificate as a flying officer.

Sharma, a resident of Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, entered the Air Force, following the footsteps of his father. After getting a degree in engineering, she was the only female fighter pilot of her batch. He conducted his initial deployment at Hai Kympet Air Force Station, Hyderabad and later transferred for Bidar Air Force Station, Stage 2 and Stage 3 Advanced Fighter Training in Karnataka.

Priya Sharma says that her hobby of flight was from her childhood. She used to see Jharm and Hawk Aircraft flying when her father was posted in Bidar. This passion inspired her to become a female fighter pilot.

How much is salary?

In the Indian Air Force, the squadron leader gets a pay band from Rs 69,400 to Rs 2,07,200 per month. It also includes other allowances and facilities, such as housing allowance, transport allowance, dearness allowance etc.

Farewell and ceremony of MIG-21

The chief guest at the ceremony to be held on 26 September will be Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. The ceremony will begin with the Jump of 8,000 feet of IAF’s Elite Skidoving Team ‘Akash Ganga’. This will be followed by a grand flypass of MIG-21 aircraft, which will also include the performance of the air warrior drill team.

Fighter pilots will fly in ‘Badal’ and ‘Panther’ formation. Surya Kiran aerobatic team will also show its exciting performance on this occasion. A special postage stamp will also be released in memory of MIG-21 on the occasion of the ceremony.
