India has got a big success between Trade Tarifs and Global Energy Crisis. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has discovered a large reserves of natural gas in Andaman Shallow offshore block near Andaman Islands. This discovery took place during the excavation of Vijayapuram-2 Well, which was done under OALP (Open Acreage Licensing Policy). The well is located within the depth of 295 meters of water and 2,650 meters of ground, about 17 km from the east coast of Andaman. During testing, 87% pure methane has been confirmed from here – which makes it a high quality natural gas source. Energy Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the discovery proves that the Gas belt spread from Andaman Basin, Myanmar to Indonesia can be as rich as much as. This will help India reduce dependence on gas imports, which currently completes 44% of gas through imports. Methane is a clean fuel and using it can make heavy cuts in pollutants such as co₂ and SO₂. This discovery is a major step towards India’s energy self -sufficiency.
