Fast bowler Mohammed Shami last played in the Champions Trophy. At that time, Shami was included in the squad after Jasprit Bumrah was out of the tournament. After that the selectors also excluded him from the Test series against the Asia Cup, West Indies. BCCI has not given Shami a chance in ODIs and T20 series against Australia. Now Shami has turned to domestic cricket to remain in the eyes of the selectors.

According to The Telegraph, the head coach of the Bengal cricket team Laxmi Ratna Shukla has confirmed that Mohammed Shami can be seen playing the first match for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy, in which she has to face Uttarakhand. Earlier, Shami has questioned the decision of the selection committee. He said that he is fully fit to play domestic cricket. There was no problem related to injury that made him sit out of the Asia Cup.

Bengal coach Laxmi Ratna Shukla said, β€œI spoke to Shami 6 or 7 days ago, he has shown interest in playing a Ranji match. So we are in the hope that he will play the first match of the season for Bengal.” There is an update indication on Shami that he has no mood for retirement right now.

Recently, according to sources, a BCCI official said, β€œAt present, the chances of returning to the Indian team are getting difficult for Shami. He was not able to perform well in the Dilip Trophy match. His age is increasing, while even in terms of speed, he did not appear in his best rhythm in the Dilip Trophy. But he would have to be active in domestic cricket to continue the game.”

The Ranji Trophy will be the first match of the Bengal team in the 2025-26 season against Uttarakhand from October 15, which is to be played at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.
