Election preparations are in full swing in Bihar. To ensure the convenience of voters and fair voting, this time the State Election Commission has decided to increase the honorarium of polling officers. Whereas earlier polling officers were paid Rs 250 per day, now this amount has been increased to Rs 400 per day. This means that they will now get Rs 1600 in lump sum for one day’s polling work.

Earlier, polling officers performing duty in Bihar elections were paid at the rate of Rs 250 per day. This amount was fixed for a long time and there was a demand from the employees to increase it. This time the Election Commission has accepted that demand and revised the rates. Under the new system, polling officers will now be paid Rs 400 per day or Rs 1600 in lump sum.

What is work?

The job of a polling officer is not just to conduct voting. He is responsible for everything from checking the voting machines at the polling station to identifying voters and monitoring the voting process. In case of any glitch or technical problem at any centre, he is the first person who takes care of it. Therefore, his role is very important for the transparency and fairness of elections.

According to the Commission, after the voting is over, the employees will be paid as per the prescribed procedure. Its complete record will be kept by the district administration so that there is no disturbance or delay of any kind. Where earlier the polling officer used to get Rs 250 per day, now he will get Rs 400 per day or Rs 1600 in lump sum. This is not only financial relief, but also a recognition of their hard work.

When will the elections be held?

The dates of Bihar Assembly elections 2025 have been announced. The Election Commission has decided to conduct voting in the state on November 6 and 11, while the results will be announced on November 14. With the announcement of elections, the code of conduct has also been implemented in Bihar.
