Due to 100 percent tariff, a huge jump in the prices of specific generic medicines was expected in the American market. According to information received in a report, India alone exports 47 percent of the generic medicines supplied to America.

Demand for Indian medicines in American market

The export rate of Indian medicines to America is increasing rapidly. Exports of Indian pharma companies to reach $30 billion in the financial year 2025. In which a growth of about 31 percent is being seen every year. The demand for Indian generic medicines has also increased in the American market. The direct effect of which is visible in the pharma export data. After this decision of Trump, it is expected that the business of generic medicines will grow faster. India is such a big producer of medicines that it is known as the pharmacy of the world.

Trump had announced 100 percent tariff

Recently, Trump had announced through social media that America will impose 100 percent tariff on certain medicines. If a company produces medicines in America, then this tariff rate will not apply to them. After which a decline in the shares of pharma companies was seen.

However, American citizens are largely dependent on Indian medicines. Many medicines like diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol and antibiotics are exported from India in large quantities. On average, American citizens have to spend less for medicines sent from India. Therefore, demand for Indian medicines remains in the American market.
