French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday (October 9, 2025) once again appointed Sébastien Lecornu as the new Prime Minister of the country. Last Monday itself, Lecornu had resigned from his post after massive protests. After being appointed as PM, Lecornu wrote on Twitter that he will do everything possible to provide France with a budget by the end of the year and to solve the issues of daily life of our fellow citizens.
He further said, ‘We must end this political crisis which troubles the French people and this instability which is harmful to the image of France and its interests.’ According to a Reuters report, after the re-appointment, Lecornu’s main task will be to present next year’s budget in the French Parliament as soon as possible.
5th Prime Minister of the country to leave office in the last 2 years
The reappointment of Lecornu, a close ally of Macron, comes after he resigned within weeks of taking office and hours after the cabinet was announced. With this, he became the fifth Prime Minister of the country to step down in the last two years.
Let us tell you that France is currently embroiled in a deep political crisis, especially after Macron called for sudden legislative elections last year. This move went against them and in July 2024, a hung situation arose in the Parliament, which was divided into three factions whose ideologies did not match each other. Although Lecornu wants to lead France out of political and economic turmoil, he said this can only be done under certain conditions.
Lecornu kept these conditions
The new PM Lecornu said that all the issues raised during the consultations held in recent days will be open for parliamentary debate. Deputies and senators will be able to take up their responsibilities and the debate should be seen to the end. Restoring our public finances remains a priority for our future and our sovereignty, no one will be able to escape this need.
He further said that those joining the government must commit to setting aside presidential ambitions for 2027. The new government team should include skills renewal and diversity. He further said that I will make every possible effort to succeed in this mission.
