If the financial condition of the house is weak then life is not easy for the children. From studies to one’s hobbies and needs, one has to compromise everywhere. Such was the childhood of C Vanmati, who is a resident of Erode district of Tamil Nadu. His father was a cab driver and the family income was so low that it was difficult to meet the family’s expenses. Despite this, his parents did not let his studies get hampered and provided necessary books and resources.
C Vanmati started helping the family since childhood. Along with studies, she used to go to graze buffaloes and feed the animals. In their house, daughters were generally not allowed to study further after 12th. But Vanmati always had the passion to study and become self-reliant.
Childhood challenges and pressure of marriage
After passing 12th, pressure was put on Vanmati to get married. Although his parents wanted him to study further, the pressure from relatives was increasing. Vanmati showed courage and clearly refused for marriage. His family fully supported him and this proved to be the first step to his success. After graduation, he did post graduation in computer applications. During this time, the dream of serving the country became stronger in his mind.
Where did you get inspiration from?
At that time, the District Collector in C Vanmati’s hometown was a woman, whom people respected a lot. Seeing this, the desire to become an IAS arose in Vanmati’s mind. He got further inspiration when he watched the TV serial Ganga Yamuna Saraswati. In this, the main lead actress was playing the role of an IAS officer, who gave Vanmati the strength to make her dream come true.
Hard work and UPSC success
With his hard work and dedication, C Vanmati secured 152nd rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2015.
