Eight people, including three cricketers from Afghanistan, were killed in the air strike by Pakistan, while seven others were injured. The attack took place in Urgun area of Paktika province, where cricketers Kabir, Sibgatullah and Haroon had returned after playing a friendly match. This incident has shocked the entire Afghanistan and there is an atmosphere of both mourning and anger in the country.
Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) described this incident as a big loss for the country’s sports world. The board said that the youth who lost their lives were dreaming of playing for the country in the future. ACB expressed deep condolences on the death of the players and announced their withdrawal from the T20 triangular series against Pakistan to be held in November. This series was to be played between Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Rashid Khan’s statement – This is barbarity and against humanity
Afghanistan’s star cricketer Rashid Khan strongly condemned this attack on social media platform X. He wrote that the attack on innocent civilians and players is a serious violation of human rights. Rashid said that this is a barbaric, immoral and inhuman act. I stand with my country and my people. Our national dignity is supreme.” He supported the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s decision to withdraw from Pakistan and said that it is a courageous step taken at the right time.
Wave of mourning in the cricket world
After the death of the three cricketers, a wave of mourning spread in Afghanistan and the international cricket community. Many players expressed their condolences to the Afghan cricket family by tweeting. ACB wrote in its post that Kabir, Sibgatullah and Haroon were the bright future of the country. His martyrdom is an irreparable loss for Afghan cricket.”
