After the revelation of theft of donations in Ayodhya’s Ram temple, now a case of alleged embezzlement of crores of rupees has come to light in Butati Dham, a big center of faith located in Nagaur district of Rajasthan. Alleged financial irregularities worth Rs 22 crore 74 lakh have been revealed in the offerings and temple funds in this temple related to the faith of devotees coming from India and abroad and paralyzed patients.

The 13-member inquiry committee formed on the orders of the District Collector, after examining the records, audit documents and actual records for 146 days, submitted its report, in which many serious irregularities have been mentioned. According to the investigation report, complete records of the gold and silver ornaments offered by the devotees in the temple were not found. Precious metals worth about Rs 2.60 crore were not found accounted for in the stock register and financial records.

Fake bill for construction of restaurant

Alleged fake bills of Rs 49.49 lakh were raised in the name of construction of Bhojanshala, whereas investigation revealed that a major part of the construction was done by one Bhamashah at his own expense. Apart from this, kitchen expenses were shown to have increased by 335 to 350 percent in a year. An expenditure of Rs 82.41 lakh was shown on CCTV in two years, but neither tender nor quotation was received.

Similarly, suspicious payments of more than Rs 49 lakh in the name of cow shed maintenance and security arrangements, lakhs of rupees in rural development, repairs, furniture and computer items were shown without adequate documents. A difference of lakhs of rupees was also found between the amount in the donation box and the bank accounts. The inquiry committee has recommended FIR, forensic audit and strict legal action against the concerned officials.

Paralyzed patients leave the temple after getting cured

In this temple of Rajasthan, paralyzed patients from every corner of the country as well as from abroad come for treatment. It is believed that by coming here, paralyzed patients are cured. This matter has now also taken a political color. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Tikaram Julie said that the report of embezzlement of crores of rupees in such a big faith center is very serious.

Demanding a fair and transparent investigation, he raised the question that if the game of donation box, gold and silver offerings and fake bills was going on for a long time, then what was the Devasthan department and administration doing. Julie said that the truth of the entire matter should come out and action should be taken against the culprits without any discrimination.

What did Devasthan Minister Zoraram Kumawat say?

Meanwhile, Devasthan Minister Jora Ram Kumawat said that corruption in the money of devotees’ faith will not be tolerated at any cost. He said that the recommendations of the inquiry committee are being studied and on the basis of that, legal action will be initiated against the Temple Development Committee. He also talked about making the temple management system more transparent.

However, Temple Development Committee Chairman Devendra Singh Rathi has rejected all the allegations and claimed that he has complete records of every expenditure and he will present his case in the court with the documents. At present, everyone’s eyes are on how fast the process of filing FIR, legal action and framing of charges progresses on the basis of investigation report.
