BEML got the contract in 2024
Two high-speed trainsets capable of running at a speed of 280 kilometers per hour will be manufactured in this plant, the first of which is expected to be ready by March 2027. This achievement has been achieved after the contract awarded by Integral Coach Factory to BEML for design, construction and commissioning in October 2024. It is expected that this train will be started by August 2027.
Bullet train will be jointly designed by Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai and BEML. In October 2024, BEML was awarded the contract to design and manufacture two high-speed trainsets. It is estimated to cost approximately Rs 866.87 crore to build it.
Initially, there is a plan to run this train on a 97 km long route between Surat and Vapi, which is part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor. This train is likely to be rolled out by the first quarter of 2027 (between March-April), after which the trials will start.
What is the specialty of the train?
- It will have full AC chair-car coaches.
- The chairs installed in the train will rotate and tilt 360 degrees. It will be provided with onboard infotainment system and world class facilities.
- This is a major achievement in reducing dependence on countries like Japan in high-speed train technology and making India self-reliant in this direction.
