Women Reservation Bill: Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur on Wednesday criticized the opposition parties and said that they are not supporting the Women’s Reservation Bill. He alleged that people with ‘anti-women thinking’ are opposing this law.
His comment came just a day before the resumption of the three-day extended budget session of Parliament. During this session, amendments to the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Act, 2023’ and a proposed delimitation bill are expected to be discussed to ensure one-third reservation for women in Parliament.
Speaking to IANS, Thakur said: ‘Those who are anti-women are the ones doing this. In 1971 itself, it was decided who would get how many seats. South Indian states are getting more seats than that.
He said that women are also getting 33 percent reservation. Therefore, the parties whose ideology is anti-women are opposing it today—be it (Congress MP) Sonia Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, DMK or any other party. He accused the Congress-led UAPA government of not being able to pass this bill during its tenure.
He said that even when he was part of the UAPA government, he did not allow the Women’s Reservation Bill to be passed during its 10-year tenure; But we have passed this bill.
Apart from this, Thakur said that we give women their rights and work towards women empowerment. Meanwhile, the BJP MP also spoke to reporters about the Trinamool Congress rule and the BJP’s prospects in the West Bengal Assembly elections next week.

He said that people have silenced the voice of Mamata Banerjee. Trinamool Congress’s defeat is certain. Trinamool Congress will be out of power on May 4. That is why Mamata Banerjee is nervous. She is not able to talk about any achievement of her 15 years of rule in the state.
Accusing the Trinamool Congress chief of being involved in corruption, he said that Mamata Banerjee is a corrupt Chief Minister, who reached the site of the ED raid to save her leaders.
Apart from this, Thakur said that West Bengal will be free from corruption, commission and illegal infiltration after BJP comes to power in the state. When the state gets rid of Trinamool Congress, it will automatically be freed from all evils.
